Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before booking a call.

Getting Started

What does the process look like?

It starts with a free 60-minute discovery call. We talk through the system or workflow in question and what you're trying to accomplish. If it's a good fit, I put together a scoped proposal with a fixed price. No surprises, no hourly billing games.

Do I need technical knowledge before we talk?

Not at all. Most clients come in knowing what's broken or what they want to accomplish — not what the technical path forward looks like. My job is to translate. You bring the business context, I bring the technical side.

What's the first step?

Book a free discovery call on the Contact page. It's 60 minutes, no obligation, and genuinely useful even if we don't end up working together.

Working Together

Do you work remotely?

Yes — primarily remote. I'm based in Kelowna, BC and work with clients across Canada. On-site engagements are available in BC for workshops and training.

Will I be dealing with junior staff or contractors?

No. I'm a solo consultant — the person you meet on the discovery call is the person who does the work. No bait-and-switch with juniors or subcontractors.

How long does a typical engagement take?

It depends on which track. A Track 1 audit is typically 1–2 weeks. Track 1 builds range from a few days to a few weeks depending on complexity. Track 2 training sessions and workshops are scheduled per engagement. Track 3 builds are scoped per project. Monthly retainers (dev support, training, or automation maintenance) are ongoing month-to-month.

Do you require long-term contracts?

No. Project engagements are fixed-scope and fixed-price. Retainers (Track 1 ongoing support, Track 2 training, or Track 3 automation maintenance) are month-to-month with no lock-in — cancel any time.

The Three Tracks

Which of the three tracks fits my situation?

If you need software built or modernized: Track 1. If you or your team want to learn to use AI properly: Track 2. If you have a process or workflow you want AI to handle: Track 3. Not sure? The free 60-minute discovery call is exactly for figuring that out.

What does "AI-accelerated" actually mean?

I use AI agents (mostly Claude) to handle the boilerplate, repetitive, and search-the-docs parts of software work. I still do the engineering, planning, code review, and architectural decisions — AI doesn't replace any of that. The result is roughly the same scope a traditional dev shop would quote in months, shipped in days.

Are you a certified AI trainer?

No. I'm a working software engineer who happens to use AI every day to ship production software, and I teach the workflow I actually ship with. If you want certification-track training, look elsewhere. If you want hands-on, in-your-real-systems training, that's me.

Do you take work outside Kelowna / BC?

Yes — most work is remote-friendly. In-person workshops happen in the Okanagan; everything else can run online. I'm referral-driven, so most clients arrive that way regardless of location.

AI & Technical

How is this different from just using ChatGPT?

ChatGPT is a tool. I help you figure out which tools are worth using, build them into your actual systems and workflows, and make sure your team knows how to use them effectively. That's the difference between a hammer and someone who builds you a house.

What AI tools and platforms do you work with?

I'm vendor-agnostic — I use whatever fits the problem. In practice, that often means Claude (Anthropic), GPT (OpenAI), and purpose-built tooling layered on top of your existing systems. I don't earn commissions from any platform.

What industries do you serve?

All three tracks are industry-agnostic. My engineering background spans higher education, e-commerce, and enterprise systems. If you're a small business in Kelowna or BC, a team that wants practical AI training, or an organization with a workflow you want automated — it's worth a conversation.

Will my data be safe?

Security is core to how I build things — not an afterthought. I have deep experience with SSO, SAML, OAuth, JWT, Row Level Security, and building systems where data doesn't leak. Any solution I build will respect your data boundaries, and I'll be transparent about where data flows.

Deliverables & Knowledge Transfer

What does "knowledge transfer" mean?

It means you walk away owning the solution — not dependent on me to keep it running. Every engagement includes documentation (architecture notes, how-to guides, runbooks) and a handoff session where I walk your team through what was built and how to maintain it.

Do I own the code?

Yes. Everything built for you is yours. I retain no rights to IP developed during your engagement.

What if something goes wrong after the project ends?

Implementation projects include 30 days of post-launch support. Beyond that, I'm available for follow-on work or retainer support. I'm not the type to build something and disappear.
